Tapwave began distributing Zodiac in 2003 as a hybrid device positioned between a Palm OS PDA and an entertainment-oriented handheld console. Zodiac 1 used Palm OS 5.2T, a 200 MHz ARM9 processor, a 480 × 320-pixel landscape touch screen, dedicated gaming controls and SD/MMC slots. Zodiac 1 incorporated 32 MB of memory, while Zodiac 2 increased that capacity. The platform could run Palm OS applications as well as games specifically adapted to its controls and multimedia capabilities. It was an early proposal for convergence between a PDA and a handheld video game system.
