Palm introduced Zire 71 in April 2003 as a consumer PDA clearly focused on multimedia. It used Palm OS 5.2.1, a 144 MHz Texas Instruments OMAP310 processor and a 320 × 320-pixel colour TFT screen. Its most visible feature was an integrated VGA digital camera revealed by sliding the case, still an unusual feature in the Palm range. It also incorporated an SD/MMC slot and could play audio through software. Zire 71 reflects the transformation of traditional PDAs into devices capable of combining personal organisation, photography and entertainment.
