Valve launched the Steam Link device on 10 November 2015 alongside Steam Controller and the first commercial wave of Steam Machines. It was not a console that ran games locally: over the home network it received the video and audio generated by a PC or Steam Machine running Steam, while sending controller inputs back to that computer. Valve designed it to bring the Steam library to a television in another room, with streaming at up to 1080p and 60 Hz under suitable conditions. It represented an early dedicated commitment to home gaming through local streaming.
