Released in 2007, the GM-228 was TimeTop’s final handheld and departed from the architecture of the earlier GameKing systems to use Famiclone-type hardware compatible with NES/Famicom games. It included games in memory and accepted its own cartridges, which were completely incompatible with earlier GameKing cartridges. Interestingly, early prototypes were still identified as GameKing III, but TimeTop removed that designation before commercial release.
