SEGA SATURN M2 — system in the collection

SEGA SATURN M2

During 1996 Sega introduced the second main exterior configuration of Saturn, recognisable by its round buttons and a simplified case compared with the first design. The revision retained full compatibility with the Saturn CD-ROM catalogue and the same fundamental dual Hitachi SH-2 processor architecture, but allowed Sega to streamline the hardware and reduce manufacturing costs. The name “Model 2” is a common way of distinguishing this family of revisions and does not represent a Saturn successor or a different platform. Several internal revisions existed under this exterior design in Japan and other markets.
