Released in 2011, the Wii Family Edition RVL-101 was a lower-cost Wii revision designed to sit horizontally. To reduce costs, Nintendo removed the GameCube controller and memory-card ports, officially eliminating backward compatibility with GameCube games and accessories. Otherwise, it retained almost all the functions of the original Wii.
