Nintendo released Nintendo Switch 2 on 5 June 2025 as the successor to Nintendo Switch, retaining the hybrid concept of handheld, tabletop and television play. It incorporates a 7.9-inch 1080p LCD screen, 256 GB of internal storage and new Joy-Con 2 controllers that attach magnetically and can be used as a mouse in compatible games. The dock allows video output of up to 4K under compatible conditions. Nintendo also retained compatibility with a broad selection of physical and digital Nintendo Switch games, although there are exceptions and differences in compatibility. Its release marked the beginning of a new generation of Nintendo hardware eight years after the original Switch.
