Nintendo launched Game Boy Micro in 2005 as the final revision of the Game Boy Advance family. It reduced the hardware to a case approximately ten centimetres wide and used a two-inch backlit LCD screen with adjustable brightness. It retained compatibility with Game Boy Advance cartridges but, unlike Game Boy Advance and SP, could not run Game Boy or Game Boy Color cartridges. Its decorative faceplate could also be replaced. Micro was an especially compact reinterpretation of the GBA platform, not a new handheld generation.
