Nintendo introduced the AGS-101 revision of Game Boy Advance SP during 2005. Externally it retained the SP’s clamshell design, but replaced the front-lit screen of the AGS-001 with a much brighter backlit display offering two selectable brightness levels. It kept the rechargeable battery and compatibility with Game Boy Advance, Game Boy Color and Game Boy cartridges. The screen improvement made the AGS-101 the technically most advanced revision of the SP family, appearing when Nintendo DS was already on the market.
