Released in Europe and Japan in July 2012, Nintendo 3DS XL was the first large-format revision of Nintendo 3DS. Its two screens were approximately 90% larger than those of the original model, reaching 4.88 inches for the upper 3D screen and 4.18 inches for the lower touch screen. It also incorporated a higher-capacity battery and a 4 GB SD card while retaining the functions and compatibility of the original 3DS.
