MATTEL HYPER SCAN — system in the collection

MATTEL HYPER SCAN

Mattel launched HyperScan in the United States in October 2006 with an unusual concept: combining CD-ROM video games with RFID-based IntelliCard collectible cards. The console incorporated a 13.56 MHz reader capable of reading and writing data on these cards, which could unlock characters, modify abilities and retain progress for later use. The system was aimed particularly at younger players and received games based on licences such as X-Men and Ben 10. Its commercial life was very short, and Mattel abandoned the platform the following year.
