LeapFrog launched Leapster Explorer in June 2010 as a new generation of its educational handheld platform. It retained the combination of touch screen, stylus and video game controls, but used a platform different from earlier Leapster models and expanded its capabilities to include games, e-books, videos and activities downloadable through a computer connection. The system remained focused on children’s learning and received software both on cartridges and as digital content. LeapFrog presented Explorer as a significant evolution of its educational ecosystem rather than simply another casing for the original Leapster.
