Leapster L-Max appeared in 2005 as an evolution of LeapFrog’s Leapster educational handheld console. It retained the stylus-operated touch screen, directional pad and game buttons, but added a television output that allowed certain games to be used on a large screen and provided access to specific features prepared for L-Max. It also retained compatibility with cartridges for the original Leapster, while L-Max cartridges could also be used in compatible Leapster models, although without the television features.
