Atari 400 was introduced as the affordable model in Atari’s first family of 8-bit computers. It used a 6502 CPU and custom chips for graphics and sound, technology that was highly advanced for 1979. Although it accepted cartridges, it could also use cassette tape and, through peripherals, floppy disks.
