Zeebo was a console developed for emerging markets by Zeebo Inc., a company linked to Tectoy and Qualcomm, and went on sale in Brazil in 2009. Its defining feature was the absence of discs and cartridges: games were distributed digitally through an integrated 3G mobile connection using a network called ZeeboNet. The hardware was based on Qualcomm technology and its library combined versions of established games with productions created specifically for the platform. It was later released in Mexico. Zeebo is an early example of a home console designed from the outset around exclusively digital distribution.
