Takara Taiko de Popira appeared in Japan in 2003 as an evolution of the Popira series of music games, replacing the large buttons of earlier models with two strike-sensitive drums. It included songs and a story mode, and its repertoire could be expanded through compatible interchangeable cartridges, bringing the gameplay of popular Japanese percussion video games to a home Plug & Play format.
