Sony launched PlayStation in Europe on 29 September 1995, and SCPH-1002 corresponds to the console's first European PAL series. The machine used CD-ROM and an architecture focused on three-dimensional polygonal graphics, with a MIPS-compatible R3000A CPU and dedicated geometry and graphics hardware. Early units retained a broad set of rear connections, including RCA audio and video outputs as well as the AV Multi Out connector. The European launch followed the Japanese release of December 1994 and the US release of September 1995.
