Sega unveiled NAOMI 2 in 2000 and began its commercial arcade operation in 2001 as an evolution of the NAOMI board. It retained an architecture closely related to Dreamcast and added graphics power for more complex 3D environments and effects, while preserving compatibility with software for the first NAOMI. The unit in this collection has been consolised, meaning it was subsequently adapted for use outside an arcade cabinet, and its configuration with Atomiswave, NAOMI and NAOMI 2 ROMsets does not correspond to a home console originally marketed by Sega. The historical date refers to the NAOMI 2 platform, not to this later modification.
