Nintendo Game Boy Color appeared in 1998 as an evolution of the successful Game Boy, adding a colour screen and greater processing power without abandoning the enormous existing library. Its compatibility with Game Boy cartridges eased the transition between the two machines and considerably extended the life of the Game Boy family.
