Launched in 2004, Nintendo initially presented the DS as a new way to play alongside the Game Boy family. Its two screens and, especially, the use of a touch screen as a control method radically distinguished the machine from earlier handhelds. It also included PictoChat in memory for exchanging messages and drawings through wireless communication.
