NEC PC-8001mkII appeared in 1983 as an evolution of the original PC-8001. It increased standard RAM to 64 KB and added graphics modes up to 640 × 200 pixels, together with an internal interface for 5.25-inch floppy-disk drives and two expansion slots. It also replaced N-BASIC with N80-BASIC, which added new instructions and graphics commands, integrating into the computer functions that had previously required external expansions.
