Microsoft marketed Xbox editions with a translucent Crystal case in PAL territories during 2004. Internally they remained revisions of the original Xbox and retained the same DVD catalogue, built-in hard drive, controller ports and Xbox Live compatibility. The main difference was cosmetic: the case and controllers used clear translucent plastic instead of the black and green associated with the standard model. Crystal Xbox belongs to the mature stage of the platform, when Microsoft used special editions and regional bundles before the arrival of Xbox 360.
