INTER ELECTRONICA OVERKAL — system in the collection

INTER ELECTRONICA OVERKAL

The Overkal was developed in Barcelona by Inter Electrónica during 1973 and marketed in Spain in 1974. Its design derives directly from the Magnavox Odyssey, but it introduced a significant difference: instead of using the Odyssey’s circuit cards to select the different game configurations, the Overkal incorporated front-panel push buttons that directly reconfigured its circuitry. It had neither a CPU nor program memory and was built with discrete electronics. It is one of the earliest European home video game systems and is widely regarded as the first video game console manufactured in Spain and one of the first — probably the first — manufactured in Europe.
