FMV-TOWNS appeared in 1995 as the successor to the FM TOWNS family. Fujitsu adopted a PC/AT-compatible architecture but incorporated a dedicated mode that preserved compatibility with FM TOWNS software, creating an unusual hybrid system between the two platforms.
